San Fransisco-based ticket retailer Ticketfly has announced the acquisition of Vancouver-based and MRG Group-owned company Northern Tickets.

President of the MRG Group (a Canadian entertainment and hospitality company) Matt Gibbons says that the new partnership was spurred by their interest in Ticketfly's technology — which combines ticket sales and event marketing to offer fans a premium concert-going experience.

"What we saw in Ticketfly was not only world class technology, but world class people with a shared belief in delivering the best experiences for fans," he said in a statement. "This is a merger of two great teams that will benefit immensely from one another. By partnering with Ticketfly, which offers the best integrated technology platform for live events, we at the MRG Group can focus on what we do best: providing exceptional hospitality."

The partnership will add venues like Toronto's Adelaide Music Hall and Vancouver's Vogue Theatre to Ticketfly's roster, as well as high-profile events like the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

"Acquiring Northern Tickets and adding the MRG Group to our client roster marks another momentous day in Ticketfly's history. We are delighted to welcome them to the family," said Ticketfly co-founder and CEO, Andrew Dreskin, in a press release. "We've seen tremendous growth in Canada since launching there a couple years ago, with gross ticket sales up 80 percent year-over-year in 2014 alone. We've become the go-to solution for independent venues and promoters across Canada, and we believe that this transaction signals continued growth for us up there."

In the same press release Ticketfly also noted that they were "more hyped up than a kid at Tim Hortons," about the deal to improve live events for both promoters and fans across Canada.
