Third Man Teams Up with Sun Records for Reissue Series Featuring Johnny Cash, Rufus Thomas, the Prisonaires

Jack White's Third Man Records previously launched a reissue partnership with Document Records, and now it has announced a similar collaboration with Sun Records. The two Tennessee record labels have teamed up for a series of 7-inch reissues.

Third Man has announced the first three releases in the series, which are due out on May 21 and convey the diversity of Sun Records' early roster. The singles are: Johnny Cash's 1956 tune "Get Rhythm" (which is backed by the far more famous "I Walk the Line"), Rufus Thomas' 1953 R&B number "Bear Cat," and the Prisonaires' 1953 doo-wop hit "Just Walking in the Rain."

According to Third Man, "Each release remains faithful to its original issue on Sun, replicating the classic logo and label design coupled with a striking Sun company sleeve."

Limited-edition versions of the singles will be pressed on yellow and black splattered vinyl. There will be only 150 copies of each of these special editions made; 100 of each will be sold by Third Man's Rolling Record Store van, while the remaining 50 will be slipped into random mail orders.

For those unconcerned with fancy coloured vinyl, the records are currently available to pre-order on standard black wax.

Future releases from Third Man and Sun are reportedly already in the works. Some notable artists from Sun's roster include Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich and Jerry Lee Lewis, so this campaign will be worth keeping an eye out for.
