Third Man Records Finally Releasing Jay Z's 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' on Vinyl

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 18, 2015

Back in 2013, hip-hop icon Jay Z announced that he had teamed up with Jack White's Third Man Records for a special vinyl release of Magna Carta Holy Grail.  It was so long ago now that the rapper still had a hyphen in his name, but the label has finally revealed that the LP set will be released this Friday (March 20).

The announcement comes along with news that the Third Man store has physically expanded, and the Jay Z LP will be amongst the special merchandise available at the opening ceremony of the new space later this week.

Magna Carta Holy Grail has been treated to some fancy deluxe packaging, getting released as eight 7-inch 45 rpm records in a clothbound binder that plays on "the theme of redacted government documents."

Only 1,000 copies will be made available, and it will arrive as a joint release between Third Man and Jay Z's own Roc Nation.

You can watch a trailer detailing the new release below, revealing quirks of the set like scratch-away paint that unveils photos and mirrors that reveal backwards-printed lyric sheets.
