Third Man Records Details Live Albums from the Shins, the Kills, Seasick Steve

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 20, 2013

We already knew that the Shins had a live album on the way via Jack White's Third Man Records label, but now its release details have finally been confirmed. Sweetening the deal, the label has also announced live albums from garage duo the Kills and gruff bluesman Seasick Steve. All three records will be out on June 25.

An announcement notes that these albums were recorded at Third Man's Nashville facility last October using the label's direct-to-acetate recording method. No overdubs or edits were used, and the recordings were mixed on the fly by engineer Vance Powell (Jack White, the White Stripes, Danger Mouse). They were then instantly cut to vinyl using a lathe dating back to 1953.

The albums are available to pre-order from Third Man's online store, either individually or as part of a bundle. Black and blue split-colour records will be available exclusively to fans who attended the shows and pre-ordered at the time. See the tracklists for all three records below.

Watch a video about Third Man's live-to-acetate process featuring Seasick Steve at the bottom of this page. The label notes that more live-to-acetate albums are on the way; this presumably includes the recent Jack Johnson session, which was recorded live-to-acetate this past weekend (June 15), and perhaps Divine Fits' recent performance.
