Thee Oh Sees Return with 'Putrifiers II,' Announce North American Dates with Ty Segall

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 12, 2012

Prolific California garage rockers Thee Oh Sees had an extra busy 2011, having offered up two records and a two-LP compilation. The John Dwyer-helmed outfit have led a relatively relaxed 2012 so far, but that's all about to change with the release of their next LP, Putrifiers II.

Thee Oh Sees' latest full-length arrives September 11 via In the Red Records. While still touting the paint-peeling psych and garage textures of past work, their next outing apparently has Dwyer in a mellower mood. Citing influences like Scott Walker, the Velvet Underground, the Zombies and Japanese combo Les Rallizes Denudes, the record appeals to Dwyer's softer side.

"I will still strike an audience in the brain," the band leader assured in a statement, while adding, "Maybe every now and then it would be okay if we relaxed a little."

Highlights are said to include the string-assisted "So Nice" and "Lupine Dominus," which features a Krautrock groove.

On top of the group's regular four-piece lineup, the record features guests Mikal Cronin (sax), Heidi Maureen Alexander (trumpet, vocals) and K Dylan Edrich (viola).

Fittingly, even though Putrifiers II is still a few months away, Thee Oh Sees are already recording its follow-up. However, the group will get away from the studio throughout the summer and the fall, with dates scheduled around North America.

Toronto's Hoxton will get treated to a co-headlining show with Ty Segall on September 26, while Calgary and Vancouver will find Thee Oh Sees supported by Sic Alps. You can check out the full schedule down below.
