T-Bone Burnett is known for curating some massively soundtracks, as the producer has previously helmed the music for O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Cold Mountain, and Crazy Heart. For his latest work, the celebrated country/folk studio whiz has recruited some indie rock talent, as he'll be teaming up with the Decemberists and members of Arcade Fire for the soundtrack of The Hunger Games.
This adaptation of a 2008 young adult novel by Suzanne Collins is due out on March 23. When it arrives in cinemas, a press release reports that it will include original songs by the Decemberists ("One Engine") and Win Butler and Regine Chassagne of Arcade Fire ("Horn of Plenty," which was co-written with Burnett). According to a tweet from ArcadeFireTube, the latter is an instrumental piece.
There will also be some country music talent on the soundtrack, as Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars are involved. These two acts teamed up for the soundtrack's single "Safe and Sound," which is out now.
The Hunger Games will include a score from James Newton Howard, who has written music for movies like The Sixth Sense (1999), King Kong (2005) and Green Lantern (2011). The dystopian drama stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson. Music fans will be interested to note that Lenny Kravitz will be playing the role of Cinna.
There's no word as to whether any other indie stars are on board for the soundtrack, but we'll be keeping a close eye on this one in the coming weeks and months. The soundtrack will be out in March via Universal Republic Records.
