If SJR’s debut, Use Once And Destroy, moshed you upside the head, their sophomore release will kill you. Uh, in metalspeak that’s a good thing, and the translation is that Phil Anselmo and his gang of merry minstrels have delivered a much more cohesive album this time around. Anselmo is now focusing 100 percent on SJR, and his lack of distractions shows in the band’s new material. Again combining elements of old school hardcore and straight up thrash, the band also throws in plenty of odd riffs and mindfucking ideas that give off a cool, twisted vibe. They’ll confuse you, then they’ll kill you, see? Seriously though, this is the real deal, and although some of the scissor-beat hardcore tunes are expendable, the band more than makes up for it in other places. No longer merely a side project, SJR is set to, well, kill in the underground (where they will no doubt happily stay).
