Another week, another supergroup. This time members of notable English rock outfits the Libertines, Arctic Monkeys and Super Furry Animals, among others, have collaborated on a new project titled the Bottletop Band.
NMEreports that the many-membered supergroup features, among others, the Libertines' Carl Barat, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell and Super Furry Animals' head honcho Gruff Rhys. Other musicians that guest on the project include members of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, VV Brown, Sam Sparro, Fink, Reverend And The Makers, Eliza Doolittle and the Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess.
The group got together to raise money for education and employment projects in Brazil, Africa and the UK.
While the Bottletop Band's debut disc Dream Service won't be released until April 11 in the UK, the band have offered up a free download of a song, "Fall of Rome", on their website. The tune has a bit of a surf rock vibe to it, with some speedy snare work rumbling a mile a minute by the time the chorus comes around. You can watch some footage of the group recording the cut below.
Whether the rest of the set will sound as sunny remains a mystery for now.
