With their latest EP, Distance / Closure, Swedish screamo unit Suis La Lune have put forth four songs that feel more watered down and blasé than their efforts in the past. Reaching for the ambiance and emotional weight of post-rock influenced sounds cemented in the genre by bands like Raein and Envy, Suis La Lune attempt to contrast dreamier sections with the occasional shift to breakneck pacing but ultimately fall short, creating a cluttered and repetitive mess over the course of the four songs.
Highlight "Different Perspectives" is the most engaging song here, bouncing from melody to melody, but the same cannot be said for the other three tracks, all of which tend to drag and recycle riffs and chord progressions, lumping them all into a featureless, unmemorable, twinkling blur. The vocals are also mixed down throughout the EP, and for the most part sound half-hearted and utterly bland. Distance / Closure has its moments, but they are few and far between.
