St. Vincent Teams Up with Ernie Ball for New Guitar

Experimental pop impresario St. Vincent is known for her guitar shredding skills, but she's taken her knowledge of the six-stringer to new levels by designing a brand new guitar. The performer born Annie Clark has a signature axe in the Ernie Ball Music Man series.

The guitar will be available in black or "Vincent Blue," a colour that was hand-mixed by Clark in the company's California factory. The guitar has an African mahogany body, an Ernie Ball Music Man tremolo, a rosewood neck and fingerboard, St. Vincent inlays, Schaller locking tuners, a five-way pickup selector and three miniature humbucker pickups.

In a savvy marketing move, St. Vincent debuted the guitar while performing with Beck and Taylor Swift in a viral video from earlier this week (available below).

"I'm extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to design a guitar this personal with this company, this family, in whom I believe so completely," Clark said in a press release. "The entirety of my experience as a guitarist is invested in this instrument. I sought to create a tool that would help and inspire those who share my priorities in a guitar, namely that it be comfortable and lightweight and that it exhibit clean lines, all without sacrificing tone flexibility. It is with pride that I present the St. Vincent Signature Ernie Ball Music Man Guitar."

Ernie Ball CEO Sterling Ball added, "Developing the St. Vincent model with Annie has been a highlight of my career.... In addition to being one of the finest guitar players I've worked with over the past 30 years, she's equally, if not more, gifted as a guitar designer. I'm incredibly proud Annie chose us to help realize her vision. We're honored to have her as part of our family."
