Smith Westerns have been on the indie scene since they were teenagers, but the Chicago garage pop group are calling it a day — at least for the time being. They've announced an indefinite hiatus, with their last show taking place later this month.
Frontman Cullen Omori announced the news on Twitter, revealing that the band's Chicago show at Schubas Tavern on December 23 would be their last for the foreseeable future.
It seems that the breakup might not be entirely happy or amicable, since his string of tweets included a couple of frowning emotions. He also wrote, "Wish some things recently could've changed." Read the tweets down below.
Guitarist Max Kakacek won't be taking part in the band's final show, A Facebook post from Omori adds, "Max and I will still continue to create new music albeit in our own new respective projects." We can apparently expect to hear some solo tunes at the upcoming show.
The band released three full-lengths. They started with their lo-fi self-titled effort in 2009, and most recently issued Soft Will in 2013.
