We were thinking all hell would break loose when Slayer's new "When the Stillness Comes" 7-inch picture disc hits the shelves this Saturday (April 18) as part of Record Store Day. Well, get ready to go crazy a little early, Slaytanic Wehrmacht members: the new Slayer track has now surfaced online to haunt the chapels of our minds ahead of its physical release.
The track, a teaser to the band's forthcoming, to-be-detailed 11th album, plays the long game. This is a "South of Heaven"/"Dead Skin Mask"-style slow-burner that steadily increases the tension with eerily strummed six-strings and menacing musings.
Tom Araya goes grim as he details an indoor scene where "bodies lay lifeless like dolls" and "blood falls from the ceiling like rain." While it never reaches maximum thrashitude, the track does increase the speed for a quick, closing salvo of minor-key riffery.
"When the Stillness Comes" was recorded with producer Terry Date (Pantera, Soundgarden, White Zombie), while a live version of Show No Mercy's "Black Magic" takes care of the single's B-side. The record comes via Nuclear Blast.
