Sky Ferreira Teams Up with Bobby Gillespie and Ariel Rechtshaid for New LP, Covers Hole with DIIV's Zachary Cole Smith

Sky Ferreira hasn't quite set an ETA for the follow-up effort to her debut LP Night Time, My Time, but it looks as if the pop singer's next platter will feature tunes she worked on with Primal Scream members Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes, as well as returning producer Ariel Rechtshaid.

A new interview with Billboard had Ferreira revealing she hit the studio with Gillespie and Innes back in March for what she calls a "more aggressive" album. Of working with the pair, Ferreira said there was "absolutely no pressure," with Gillespie also apparently taking a mentor role with the singer-songwriter since they first met.

"It's nice to walk in somewhere and they're not like, 'Okay, your label is harassing me about this and that.' I set it up without anyone else involved, so we just sit and write in a room and there's no pressure," Ferreira said, adding, "It's also just really cool talking to [Gillespie]! Jesus and Mary Chain is one of my favourite bands ever, so at first I was a little nervous. It's really nice to meet with someone and not be disappointed by it, to have them meet every expectation."

Ferreira will also be reteaming with producers Ariel Rechtshaid and Justin Raisen, who handled all of the production duties on Night Time, My Time, and she's been trying to get in touch with electronic artist DJ Gesaffelstein so they can work on material together.

"Right now, I have the opportunity to try things," the solo artist said. "I'm enjoying myself a lot more. I think I'm in a different headspace than I was last time out, because so much has happened in the last year and a half. I think [the album] will be a little heavier. It's not going to be an electronic album completely — it's going to be a blend of everything."

In related news, last night (November 20), Ferreira and DIIV's Zachary Cole Smith performed a cover of Hole's "Asking for It" at Los Angeles' Belasco Theater. You'll find a fan-shot video of the performance down below, where you'll also find some brief clips of some other new material shown off onstage. She's apparently been playing a new track called "Guardian" on tour.

You can see the rest of the dates on her West Coast tour here.
