Six Feet Under

Maximum Violence

BY Sean PalmerstonPublished Aug 1, 1999

Despite the fact the last two Six Feet Under records were crap, Chris Barnes (death metal’s most misunderstood artist, just ask him) and band are back for another kick at the can. To be honest, Maximum Violence is probably a little stronger than this first two SFU albums, but that isn’t saying a lot. The record remains a little too simplistic for my tastes. The riffing does not go anywhere and Barnes’ vocal patterns this time around almost have a hip-hop feel that does not suit his gruff low end. Too bad, as a step forward would have been good. At least it seems they tried.
