Sinéad O'Connor

"Take Me to Church" (video)

After spreading the gospel earlier summer with an audio stream of "Take Me to Church," Sinéad O'Connor has served up a nostalgic set of visuals behind the I'm Not Bossy, I'm the Boss single.

A press release explains that the single "looks back on a lifetime of battles and broken loves, only to find pathways to peace, redemption, forgiveness and wonder." Fittingly, the video also takes a backwards glance at the songwriter's life by projecting an image of O'Connor circa "Nothing Compares 2U" over her current incarnation.

As the song build ups with a jumpy snare and atmospheric tones, the juxtaposition is heightened by the contemporary O'Connor's cries about changing the direction of her career and life ("I don't wanna be that girl no more"). From there, she further contemplates the path she's taken ("done so many bad things, it hurts") while surrounded by her band in a leafy field.

You'll find the ruminative but rollicking piece of self-reflection down below, while O'Connor's new LP arrives August 12 through Nettwerk.
