Japanese punk trio Shonen Knife last left us with their tributary Osaka Ramones: Tribute to the Ramones, but the long-running outfit will get back to their own sugar-spiked jams on the forthcoming Pop Tune album. Good Charamel will deliver the ten-song outing on June 6.
According to a press release, the collection was tracked earlier this year after the group finished their world tour behind Osaka Ramones. Guitarist/founder Naoko Yamano will handle vocal duties for the bulk of the set, but bassist Ritsuko Taneda takes over the mic on "Sunshine" and drummer Emi Morimoto sings "Psychedelic Life." Album track "Osaka Rock City" will get an extra push, as it will serve as the theme song for the upcoming Japanese film Soul Flower Train.
You can sample the title track in a teaser clip down below, which also serves to promote Shonen Knife's next batch of North American dates. The trip travels around the U.S. throughout July and August, but the band will close out the jaunt at Toronto's Quadrangle on August 22. Chicago garage duo White Mystery will join Shonen Knife on several dates. You can check the details at the bottom of the page.
