It's been almost a year since we learned about the metal supergroup featuring former Sepultura vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera, Mastodon bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, and Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato, but the band have just now formally introduced themselves as Killer Be Killed.
The band's name comes on the heels of a recent signing to the Nuclear Blast imprint, who will issue the group's debut sometime in 2014. Though details are slim on the impending LP, Killer Be Killed are currently working on the effort at Los Angeles' Fortress Studio with producer Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Gojira).
As previously reported, the project consists of Cavalera, Sanders and Puciato, who will apparently all take turns on the mic, and onetime Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch. It had previously been reported that Converge four-stringer Nate Newton was involved in the project, but a recent interview with Cavalera suggests that is no longer the case.
"It started with just me and Greg and then we got Dave Elitch — he's an amazing drummer — and then Greg knew Troy and we asked him to be the bassist so it kind of became a supergroup all of a sudden," Cavalera told Terrorizer [via Blabbermouth]. "We jammed a couple of times and the last jam we did it sounded killer; the songs are really powerful, real heavy. It's hard to describe but I think the coolest thing about this project is that all three of us are going to sing on every song."
An interview Puciato did with Noisecreep earlier this year had the vocalist explaining the the members were bonding backstage at an L.A. venue, talking about "old thrash metal, punk and hardcore," leading to the formation of the band now known as Killer Be Killed.
"We found ourselves referencing many of the same things and we were like, 'Fuck, man, we should make a record together and do it as a one-off like [Cavalera's '90s-era supergroup] Nailbomb," Puciato said. "A month later, I talked to Max again and he said we should actually do that."
