Satan's Wrath

Galloping Blasphemy

When bands do things like refer to their music as "satanic necrometal," you can't help but wonder if sometimes they are trying to out-evil each other. At first glance, Greek blackened thrash act Satan's Wrath certainly seem to fall into this category. The duo, featuring Tas Danazoglou (ex-Electric Wizard), who performs vocals, drums and bass, and guitarist Stamos K., were only formed in 2011, and Galloping Blasphemy is their debut. While they initially give the impression that they'll be wielding the most archetypal black metal stereotypes with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, Satan's Wrath quickly prove they back up their image with honest, vicious extreme metal that takes after Venom and Bathory. "Hail Tritone, Hail Lucifer" is a standout (and a reference to the belief that certain musical sounds are inherently evil) and "Death To Life" has an irresistible, well, galloping guitar rhythm. The thick, throaty vocals are also a high point, summoning infernal legions with gravitas and depth. Galloping Blasphemy succeeds not because of its horror theatricality, but by the strength of Satan's Wrath's commitment to it.
