Rootsy Ottawa-born, Toronto-based songstress Sarah Burton is set to return with her fourth release Make Your Own Bed next week, but Exclaim! has got an exclusive advanced stream of the new record that you can listen to right now.
Burton's sound was heavily inspired by the beautiful Steinway piano that's heard on the new record. It was recorded with engineer/producer Ken Friesen (Tragically Hip, Hawksley Workman, Blue Rodeo) and producer Derek Downham (the Beauties, Samantha Martin) in Almonte, ON.
The new collection of songs range from bluesy rock to indie pop, showing off both Burton's "soulful" and "sassy" musical sides. From the dark piano-pop of the album's title track to the Donna Summer disco nod on "Love to Love You," and from the borderline synth-pop sound of "So Long" to the blues-infused rock'n'roll of closing track "Picture in My Wallet," Burton showcases a range of styles and sounds, all held together by her work on the keys.
You'll be able to catch Burton live across Canada this spring, and you can see those dates listed below. Make Your Own Bed officially arrives on March 17, but you can scroll past the upcoming shows and give it a listen right now.
