Anyone looking for a sense of what Ryan Hemsworth's forthcoming album might sound like was likely left scratching their head after the Halifax native's short set. Rather than deliver original material, he relied on mixes of other popular — and sometimes left-field — material.

Befitting the 5 o'clock set time, he favoured laid-back beats featuring breathy female vocals, hip-hop heavies and R&B crooners. Few can manage to mix artists as diverse as Rhye, Kanye and Blink-182's "Feeling This" into the same set without creating jarring transitions, yet Hemsworth made it all work, creating a heady mix of styles that, unlike some of the less subtle DJs who shared the day's bill, coalesce into a sublime yet cohesive sound.

On this day, Hemsworth proved himself a deft producer able to get his point across without bashing it over the crowd's head.
