It's been a dozen years since Washington, DC alt-rock duo Royal Trux called it quits, but the last few years have seen Drag City revisiting the band's back catalogue with some reissues. Up next is a repress of 1998's self-explanatory 3-Song EP.
According to a press release, the 12-inch's June 18 due date marks the first time the EP has been available in print for over a decade. The mini-set was tracked shortly after the band rejoined the Drag City lineup following a stint with major label Virgin and released Accelerator in 1998. On top of the core duo of Jennifer Herrema and Neil Hagerty, the EP featured contributions from Slint's David Pajo on bass, Drag City employee Rian Murphy on tambourine and vocals, and Golden drummer Jon Theodore.
As for the tunes, funked-up opener "Deafer Than Blind" is described as "a sweet 'n' sour ballad," while "The United States of America vs. One 1974 Cadillac El Dorodo Sedan" is a prog-styled jam sesh. The record closes out with a cover of folk singer Richie Havens' "Run, Shaker Life."
Royal Trux also laid down a scuzzy '70s rock-styled cover of Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" during the sessions, though that appeared as a B-side to their "Liar" single the same year.
