Ron Hawkins Preps New Solo LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 9, 2011

In recent months, we've seen the return of alt-rockers the Lowest of the Low, who reissued their 1991 classic, Shakespeare My Butt, and embarked upon a series of Canadian tour dates. Now, frontman Ron Hawkins has announced he will be dropping a new solo record, Straitjacket Love, on May 31.

While the Lowest of the Low's output has been sporadic, Hawkins has filled in the gaps with a series of solo releases. This latest LP is the followup to 2009's 10 Kinds of Lonely.

According to a press release, the new album is "a lyric-based alt-country outing that explores the pitfalls and small victories of navigating life and the relationships we experience."

Hawkins will be promoting the disc with a number of live shows featuring his new band, the Do Good Assassins. The majority of the dates are in Ontario (including weekly shows at the Drake in Toronto during June and July), but there are also a pair of gigs in Halifax.
