Toning things down a smidge from their recent $100,000 box set, avant-garde greats the Residents have now announced a pair of upcoming, regularly priced reissues.
A press release confirms that the prolific weirdoes have teamed up with Superior Viaduct to serve up newly pressed vinyl copies of their debut EP Santa Dog and the rarities collection Residue of the Residents on February 18.
Santa Dog had first been delivered as a double 7-inch back in 1972 via Ralph Records/Cryptic Corporation, a couple of years prior to the group's classic Meet the Residents LP. Apparently only a few hundred copies were pressed at the time, with original copies said to currently fetch as much as $1,200 these days.
According to Discogs, copies were intentionally mis-numbered, bringing the official record count of that first batch under question. The four-song set will once again be preserved on double 7-inch.
Interestingly, the Residents went under the guise of four different bands on Santa Dog. You can hear the band, playing as Ivory & the Braineaters, run through "Fire" down below.
As for Residue of the Residents, the collection had previously arrived in 1983 via Ralph and featured a number of outtakes, rarities and sonic experiments recorded in the late '70s and early '80s. The 12-song offering has now had its tracklisting expanded to include 26 songs all together.
