Red Red Meat Launch Vinyl Reissue Campaign

Before Califone, singer-guitarist Tim Rutili fronted the famed Red Red Meat, a bluesy Chicago band who released a few albums through Sub Pop but have been largely inactive since the '90s. The group aren't entirely forgotten, however, and they are launching a campaign to reissue their catalogue on vinyl.

First in the campaign is the band's final album, 1997's There's a Star Above the Manger Tonight. It has been remastered and will come out on double vinyl through Jealous Butcher on November 11. It includes a few bonus cuts, and as you can see above, updated artwork. See the tracklist below.

In a statement about the album, Rutili said [via Pitchfork], "A lot of times I remember being in that back room working on music, and when that bell rang we'd run out and work on a truck. We were covered in blood at that job. There was always blood. The dirtiness of the place definitely seeped into the music. That's the dirtiest record we ever made."

After this, 1995's much-loved Bunny Gets Paid (which was given the deluxe reissue treatment in 2009 via Sub Pop) will be released on March 24, 1993's Jimmywine Majestic will follow August 18, and 1992's Red Red Meat will end the campaign on October 13. All of these are double LPs. Once the campaign is done, they will release the whole thing in a limited hand-bound book with eight records.

The band are selling records through a PledgeMusic campaign. In addition to vinyl, fans can buy posters and pieces of art connected to the albums.

Note that Red Red Meat's collaboration with Rex under the name Loftus in 2000 is not included in this series. That record was reissued last year, also through Jealous Butcher.
