The Real McKenzies

"Who'd a Thought"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 19, 2015

Kilted punk crew the Real McKenzies are energized and rowdy as ever on the newly premiered "Who'd a Thought," but the hard partiers are pairing the high-speed hi-jinx with some poignant words on the messed-up state we're in.

The track plays to the punkier side of the McKenzies' Celtic-infused catalogue, locking into the raw power of cranked guitars and nitro-fuelled beats before letting the bagpipes take more of a supporting role on the chorus. Paul McKenzie's gravelly, Auchentoshan-soaked, mile-a-minute flow weighs in on poverty, hunger and the general imbalance of power in modern day society. "You should be ashamed of yourselves, you greedy jerks," he howls to the powers that be.
