Prince Sued After Releasing Judith Hill Album

Prince has been involved in many legal cases over the years, and now he's on the receiving end of another suit, this time after releasing an album with a vocalist who was allegedly under an exclusive record contract.

Prince produced the new album Back in Time from Judith Hill, a seasoned vocalist who used to be Michael Jackson's backup singer, as well as appeared in the 2013 documentary 20 Feet from Stardom and as a contestant on the fourth season of The Voice.

On Monday (March 23), the Purple One posted the album as a free download on Live Nation's database. The link was only meant to be live until Wednesday (March 25), but as of press time it's still available. Prince shared it along with the following message:

Sorry 2 bother U.

Just wanted 2 send U this baby picture of Judith Hill with Her 1st piano.

Loox like her parents, who r also musicians- had a plan. Well, that plan succeeded.

This is Judith Hill's debut album BACK IN TIME.

Please spend some time with this music and then share it with someone U love.

Now, Prince has been reportedly slapped with a suit from Jolene Cherry, the industry vet known for her association with Lady Gaga. TMZ reports that Cherry learned that Hill was working with Prince at his Paisley Park studio a few months ago, and warned her to stop earlier this month. Obviously, she wasn't on board with the surprise release of Back in Time.

Not only are they seeking damages from Prince, but they also want punitive penalties.

Meanwhile, Hill's album can be downloaded here or streamed below. It's extremely funky and definitely bears Prince's sonic stamp.
