The prolific Prince will issue his next full-length record by the end of 2015, his backup band 3RDEYEGIRL have revealed. Though an official ETA has yet to be confirmed, the upcoming record will be called The Hit & Run Album.
3RDEYEGIRL made the announcement today (July 24), telling BBC 6 Music that the album will be out soon. It's title is said to be a reference to Prince's "pop-up" concert tours. While a tracklisting has yet to be delivered, the record is said to be "super experimental" and "super funky."
Speaking with BBC 6, the group added: "It's weird, there's a lot of experimental sound. It's just hit after hit and definitely caters to those fans who just love to hear what Prince has to say, rather than wanting to always hear that classic Purple Rain Prince sound."
While a tracklisting has yet to arrive, 3RDEYEGIRL confirmed that the recently revealed "HARDROCKLOVER" is, in fact, the first single. 3RDEYEGIRL drummer Hannah Ford Welton's husband Joshua Welton has also been co-writing music for the album. He had previously produced Prince's 2014 release, Art Official Age.
Though the arrival time is unclear, it's likely that The Hit & Run Album won't be available through streaming services like Spotify. Earlier this month, Prince's catalogue was pulled from various streaming services, save TIDAL.
