Pick a Piper

"Once Were Leaves" (Caribou mix) / "Once in Fjords" (Jeremy Greenspan remix)

Pick a Piper leader Brad Weber first made a name for himself as Caribou's live percussionist, and now that project's mastermind Dan Snaith has lent his remixing talents to one of Pick a Piper's songs, as has Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys.

Caribou's take on "Once Were Leaves" is bass-driven and minimal, as synths fill up the low end while vocal samples dance overtop. There are some sparse beats towards the beginning and the end, but much of it is slow-moving and abstract.

Greenspan's remix of "Once in Fjords" (which blends the titles "Once Were Leaves" and "Lucid in Fjords"), on the other hand, is anchored by a steady bass drum and bright synth splashes that eventually coalesce in a danceable groove.
