Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals

"Ugly Mug"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 22, 2013

2013 has been a massive year for Philip H. Anselmo and his band the Illegals, having already issued the War of the Gargantuas split with Warbeast and the truly destructive Walk Through Exits Only LP. Even more music is headed our way on an upcoming two-song 10-inch, of which you can hear new tune "Ugly Mug" now.

The track starts off with an ambient guitar loop and some sublimely strummed six-strings, and bubbles into a moodily crooned passage from Anselmo. Eventually, though, the Illegals erupt into a manic blast of trilled-out guitar lines and furiously worked-over drum skins, their leader grunting like a man possesed atop it all. You can sample the madness down below.

Scion A/V will issue the two-song vinyl release this Thursday (October 24) at the Housecore Horror Film Festival in Austin, TX, which will feature performances from the Illegals, Gwar, Eyehategod, the Melvins and more, as well as a film program. The tracks will later surface as a digital download.
