Over the weekend, Kip Berman of the Pains of Being Pure at Heart tweeted that he had "Just found 50+ old demos I recorded for Days of Abandon." For a taste of what he's got sitting in his archives, he's shared a couple of the tunes.
"Hell" is very different from the fuzzy sound that the Pains are typically known for. With its clean, choppy guitars and funky grooves, it sounds a bit like "Rip It Up"-era Orange Juice. On the other hand, "A Light" takes a folksy approach with its acoustic strums, simple kick drum thumps and MIDI orchestrations. These demos are fairly rough-sounding, but it's not hard to imagine what they would have sounded like with full-band studio production.
Hear the songs below. With some luck, Berman will eventually share some more of the tunes from his hard drive.
