As previously reported, this summer Ontario music fans will get to experience a brand new festival, organized in part by Bonnaroo co-founder and AC Entertainment president Ashley Capps.
Though widely reported that the weekend-long camping festival will be going by the name HomeAway, Republic Live executive director and co-organizer Shannon McNevan tells Exclaim! that it was a working title and will not be used for the event. The official name has yet to be released.
What has been confirmed, however, is that the event will be taking place from July 24 to 26 at Burl's Creek Event Grounds in Barrie, ON. The grounds recently underwent a massive renovation and expansion, now boasting a capacity for 70,000 people and 45,000 campers.
And although the lineup has yet to be announced, the organizers are promising a lively mix of rock, hip-hop, electronica, alternative rock, pop and R&B.
The music will take place across four stages, with a press release noting additional entertainment like a "late night forest," art installations, international and local food vendors, and an on-site farmers market, aimed at encouraging attendees "to explore their own creativity while giving them a powerful, unforgettable, and eye opening experience using music and art as a catalyst."
McNevan also tells Exclaim! that emphasis will be placed on highlighting the unique elements of Southern Ontario's local culture — inspired by Bonnaroo's knack for showcasing the best that Tennessee has to offer. He thinks that the biggest hits will come from the food trucks and craft brewers.
McNevan also hopes that the festival will channel Bonnaroo's spirit and sense of community. "We hope the biggest similarity will be the way that they capture the spirit of music," he says, also noting the friendliness that permeates the Tennessee fest. "Even the people checking your bags seems friendly!"
More details, including the lineup and official name, are expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
"We believe that this event will become one of North America's premiere festivals," said Capps in a press release. "And we're excited to share what we have in store for 2015 in the coming weeks."
