Brooklyn art-rock combo Oneida are known for their prolific output, but there has been an uncharacteristically long wait for the follow-up to their 2012 album A List of the Burning Mountains. In the meantime, organist Bobby Matador and drummer Kid Millions are keeping busy with their side-project People of the North. Their album Era of Manifestations will be out on March 24 through Thrill Jockey.
Oneida have long been known for their experimental eclecticism, and this album from People of the North looks to be no different. It's described in a press release as "cosmic improved music" that is "loud and distorted, anarchic to its core and imbued with a devotional spirit."
The six tracks were created in a five-hour improv session at Brooklyn, NY's Seizures Palace. They range from more than 15 minutes in length to less than two minutes. This is the follow-up to 2013's Sub Contra.
Along with Millions and Matador, Era of Manifestations features Oneida's Shahin Motia on guitar, plus "significant low-end contributions" from Richard Hoffman of Sightings. The album title and some track names were inspired by the religious sect known as the Shakers, in particular a period of spiritual reawakening from the mid-1800s.

It's worth pointing out that this is by no means Kid Millions' only album from recent years. His project Man Forever released Ryonen last year in collaboration with So Percussion. Also in 2014, he teamed up with J. Spaceman and Jim Sauter for respective releases.
