Ommadon have been lauded by the likes of Rolling Stone as one of the best doom bands of all time, which is quite a feat considering how inaccessible their sound is. The doom bands that mainstream mags praise are usually Sabbath-inspired, stuff in the vein of Pentagram, music you can nod your head and tap your feet to. But against all odds, Ommadon are getting that kind of attention. And their new EP, Empathy for the Wicked, is another example why.
Though it clocks in at around 45 minutes, Empathy features only two songs, Side A and Side B. Each song is a long, epic journey through soundscapes that rise, dip and crescendo in all kinds of weird ways. The lowness, the heaviness, and the all-around vibrations captivate you and suck you in. If black holes were music, this is probably what they would sound like. Get this album, and wallow in the absolute heaviness.
