Ottawa "downer rock" unit Old Rules are ready to unleash the first in a three-EP series with Twitch, and you can listen to it first on Exclaim.ca.

Arriving on February 3, the three-song collection marks the first of the EP series, which features both original cuts and new takes on old favourites.

It opens with the new Old Rules-penned single "Starved," followed by aggressive but melodic rocker "Zero Four." The third track reworks "Sergeant Politeness" from '90s alt-rock outfit Failure, maintaining the grungy feel of the original.

Initially starting as a side-project of the members' hardcore act Constraints, Old Rules draw their sonic inspiration from the "forefathers of modern rock," as well as more contemporary emo bands, ultimately developing a brand of rock'n'roll that sounds "at times dark, and at other times darker."

In addition to the new EP, the band have shared a brand new video for "Starved." The clip was directed by Nick Paquette and features the band taking over a house, playing in rooms, closets and staircases, with a few blurry visual effects thrown in for good measure.
