Denver, CO's Of Feather And Bone positively revel in their challenging ugliness. Combining crust with grind and hardcore with punk, their latest EP Adorned in Decay is a collection of five squalling, stomping tracks that attempt to compress as much electric anxiety and aggression into as small a space as possible. The acerbic, acid-etched tone is reminiscent of Nails, with a more schizophrenic take on structure. The rapid changes in time signature and tempo are often dizzying, whiplashing from grind chaos to deep, draconian stomps.
It's challenging music, to be sure — "Deprivation," in particular, is relentless — but as much as it demands everything from the listener, it also wrings every drop of sweat and emotion and technical skill from the band members in the process.
