We've been careful not to believe everything we read today (April 1) for obvious reasons, but there have now been two official band break-up announcements. Following the demise of Noah and the Whale, guitar-rippin' garage punks Obits (who featured members of Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes and Rocket from the Crypt) have officially called it quits.
The group first hinted that they were shutting it down with an Instagram post that read, "This bar is closed! We've succumbed, we've surrendered, we're visiting Davy Jones' Locker. Thanks for the grand time. Seriously. It was a gas."
Then, on their Facebook page, the group wrote, "In case the jokey-seeming dispatch on All Fools' Day was confusing: OBITS IS DONE. We were lucky to have a good run. Thank you. Sincerely. And, not to worry, we'll continue to post relevant garbage & photos of Sohrab's cat."
Perhaps most tragic of all is that they missed their one opportunity to play on their band name with an actual obituary.

UPDATE: In a new Kreative Kontrol interview with Vish Khanna, Obits member Sohrab Habibion spoke a bit about the breakup, saying the split was partly due to the band members now living in different parts of the country. Sohrab also said he and Obits member Greg Simpson have a new post-punk band called SAVAK with Matt Schultz of Holy Fuck and Michael Jaworski (Cops, Virgin Islands).
