How Nü Sensae's singer-bassist Andrea Lukic remains so calm between songs is a mystery; she spits absolute fury in almost all of the Vancouver trio's songs. The band's short, efficient set was tempered only by that relative lack of energy. Anchored by the Daniel Pitout's pounding drums, guitarist Brody McKnight shredded away, working up and down the neck of his guitar; it's easy to see how the group have become critical darlings across the border and their non-stop touring has turned the band's live show into a formidable force. Pitout and Lukic switched spots for one brooding number, during which Merchandise frontman Carson Cox lovingly heckled the drummer from the front of the stage. Meanwhile, the rest of the crowd waited to restart the slam-pit. Despite the bored (tired?) look on Lukic's face, the band made up for the perceived lack of enthusiasm with a scorching set.
