NOFX's Fat Mike Levels Stage Invader in Australia, Apologizes on Twitter

An onstage incident in Australia had NOFX bassist/vocalist Fat Mike (a.k.a. Mike Burkett) shoving and kicking an overeager stage invader after being grabbed by the fan mid-song.

Early on during the Wednesday night (November 5) performance in Sydney, as part of the band's current Australian tour, Burkett expressed that he had been facing neck pain during the trip. Later, during a run-through of Punk in Drublic opener "Linoleum," a fan took to the stage to try and wrap his arm around the NOFX frontman. As you'll see in the video down below, Fat Mike reacted quickly to the interruption with a backhanded slap that knocked the audience member over and followed that up with a kick to the chops. The invader was then taken offstage by security as Burkett regained his composure.

After the show, the fan identified himself as "Alex" on Twitter and reported "thanks for the KO mike, didn't hurt too much. Soz for creepin up on you like, punk shows are a bit different down here." He also uploaded a picture of the split lip he received during the altercation.

The post led to Burkett apologizing for his confrontational reaction:

While Alex confessed to being drunk at the time he creeped up onstage, Fat Mike is burying the hatchet and offering to buy the fan a drink of he comes to NOFX's next Sydney concert on Friday (November 7). You'll find the rest of the band's Down Under tour schedule here.

In other news, NOFX recently announced a proper soundtrack release to the first season of their Backstage Passport series. It lands December 9 via Fat Wreck Chords. The group are reportedly finishing up a second season, so the onstage incident could potentially make it on-air at a later date.

A 20th anniversary vinyl repress of Punk in Drublic, meanwhile, lands November 24 through Epitaph.
