Backstage Passport

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Mar 27, 2009

This eight-episode documentary series, which originally aired on Fuse TV, has been described by Fat Mike as "Titanic meets Spinal Tap." There just isn't a better way to sum up this epic journey, which follows the band's lengthy world tour from a near-riot in Peru to a 25-person show in Taiwan. It's about as real as reality TV gets, as the band don't shy away from showcasing their vices (consuming unknown drugs in Singapore) or their less-than-cool normal lives (a sad, drunk Fat Mike missing his daughter's third birthday). Filled with genuine hilarity and an unexpected amount of real soul, Backstage Passport is far from a fan-only release; it's a truly engaging look at being an outsider in a global culture that simultaneously embraces and rejects the values represented by, in this case, a touring American punk band.
