Noel Gallagher Mocks Tidal: "Do These People Think They're the Fuckin' Avengers?"

Noel Gallagher has never been one to hold back his opinions, so when he was asked about Jay Z's new Tidal streaming service, the former Oasis frontman had some characteristically harsh, hilarious things to say.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Gallagher praised Madonna for cocking her leg up on the table while signing Jay Z's Tidal declaration. Beyond that, however, he made fun of the self-seriousness of the people involved in the press conference. Gallagher said, "I think ultimately with the spiel they came out with, it was like, 'Do these people think they're the fuckin' Avengers? They're going to save the fuckin' [world].'"

Moreover, Gallagher suggested that Tidal's business-minded approach is a distraction from what really matters: writing music. "I was speaking to Chris [Martin] the day after, and I said, 'Are you after a Nobel Peace Prize? Is that what you're after?'" Gallagher recounted. "They were like, 'We're going to fuckin' save the music business.' And I'm just sitting there, thinking [imitates smoking weed] you might want to write a decent chorus for a fuckin' start. Never mind fuckin' royalties and the 'power of music.' Write a tune. Fuckin' start with that."

He continued, "I only watched it because someone was like, 'Get on these bunch of cunts on here.' And I went, 'Who?' 'Fuckin' your mate Chris Martin and all these cunts.' I got on YouTube and was like, [makes crinkled face] 'Oh. Ohhh. Ohhhhhh.' Alicia Keys made a speech that really should have been at the U.N."

Gallagher is, of course, hardly the first musician to pile scorn onto Jay Z and his Illuminati brethren. Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard said that Tidal "totally blew it," while Mumford & Sons called the whole thing "commercial bullshit."

Meanwhile, Gallagher and his project High Flying Birds released the album Chasing Yesterday earlier this year. In case you were wondering — yes, the album is available to stream on Tidal.
