April Fools? Unfortunately for Noah and the Whale fans, that's not the case, since the band have announced that they are breaking up.
The indie-folk band announced the news with a short Facebook post today (April 1). Their farewell statement is as follows:
Dear Friends
Noah and the Whale have decided to call it a day.
We have had an incredible eight years together and are immensely grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way.
There are too many people to mention in this short message but we would like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to all of our amazing fans, who have supported us so magnificently over the years and made everything possible.

The five band members also shared links to their personal websites, implying that some or all of them will continue to make music on their own. And just in cause you thought this might be a joke for April Fools' Day, the band confirmed on Twitter that this isn't the case:
The band eventually went on to release four albums, but they had been laying low as of late. They released a short film called Heart of Nowhere in late 2013, and in the fall of 2014 announced that they had taken "a little band hiatus."
