Noah Gundersen

'Ledges' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 4, 2014

Noah Gundersen, the former frontman of the Courage, is releasing his first solo full-length, Ledges, on February 11 through Dine Alone Records. In the meantime, the album is available to stream in Canada on Exclaim.ca.

Gundersen self-produced the album in his home base of Seattle at Pearl Jam member Stone Gossard's Studio Litho facility. A press release notes that the songs "address the transition into manhood while delving into questions of doubt, love, redemption, faith and mortality."

This results in an earnest, straight-from-the-heart folk sound. Opener "Poor Man's Son" consists mostly of pastoral a cappella harmonies, before the album descends into an array of quietly cinematic ballads, such as "First Defeat," "Dying Now" and teary piano-led closer "Time Moves Quickly."
