That Rivers Cuomo sitcom may have recently bitten the dust, but now another musician is in line to get a biographical TV show. This time, it's rapper Nicki Minaj, who will be executive producing an ABC Family series about her childhood.
The single-camera comedy will explore her her life growing up in the New York borough of Queens in the '90s, following her family's immigration from Trinidad and Tobago. Minaj said in a statement, "This is one of the more unique adventures I've ever embarked on. I couldn't be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special." The rapper herself will appear in the show.
The pilot will be filmed this winter. The episode was written by Kate Angelo (Sex Tape, Will & Grace, Becker), who also serves as an executive producer, along with Aaron Kaplan, Stella Bulochnikov, Brian Sher and Gee Roberson.
ABC Family exec Karey Burke said, "Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can't wait to share it with the world."
