Furthering his cinematic pursuits, Nick Cave is set to star in a fictionalized take on a day in his life titled 20,000 Days on Earth.
The Guardian reports that the drama-documentary is currently in production and is being directed by Cave collaborators Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, who have directed videos for tracks like the Bad Seeds' title cut off their 2008 set Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
The film is set to present a number of vignettes that add up to a day in the 20,000th day of Cave's life, an idea loosely based on an unreleased lyric of his. The fictionalized scenes were mostly unscripted and are said to include moments spent in a therapy session, eating with longtime musical collaborator Warren Ellis, watching Scarface with Cave's children, and driving around with passengers like actor Ray Winstone and singer Kylie Minogue (who you can see in the photo above).
"The car becomes this place of imaginings, I guess, where the thoughts I'm having materialize in the forms of people that have played some part in my story," Cave explained.
The film began shooting during the writing sessions for the Bad Seeds' latest LP, Push the Sky Away. According to Cave, he had hesitations about the film, but put his trust in the filmmakers to make something more than a standard documentary.
"I don't really know if it is a good idea," he said. "I'm extremely reluctant to be filmed. But I trusted Iain and Jane enough to give them complete access to the studio and they've just expanded the idea into a feature-length, cinematic-style documentary. The thing is, they presented something that wasn't just telling the Nick Cave story we do or do not know. It's their idea. I'm just sort of being blindly told what to do."
20,000 Days on Earth is expect to hit screens sometime in 2014.
