Neil Halstead Quashes Slowdive Reunion, Plays Oro, Ontario and Montreal

BY Cam LindsayPublished Jul 11, 2008

With the reunions of My Bloody Valentine and Swervedriver proving there are still a lot of shoes to gaze at out there, and plenty of people to watch, it appears that fans will have to hold their collective breath until they turn blue and die of suffocation before they'll ever see Slowdive on stage again.

Former front-man Neil Halstead recently told Exclaim! that the idea of reuniting the influential Reading shoegazers is just not something he thinks about.

"I just can’t really see the point," says Halstead. "It just doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t think it’s something I would want to do. I think the fact that we did three records, there’s a start, a middle and an end. I guess for the Valentines, if they make another record it makes sense to me. But if not, it is nostalgia and it’s just about money. I’m not really into that…"

It's not as if Halstead needs the work. As previously reported, the Mojave 3 front-man (yep, they're still going, he said) will release his second solo album, Oh! Mighty Engine, on July 25 via Brushfire — yes, Jack Johnson's label! It appears Neil is also quite the surfer dude (see the cover of Mojave 3's Out of Tune for proof).

Neil will be joining Jack and label-mates Rogue Wave for a couple of Canadian dates in August:

8/3 Oro ON, Burl's Creek Park
8/4 Montreal QC, Osheaga Music and Arts Festival
