Nardwuar the Human Serviette

vs. Justin Trudeau

With the Canadian federal election campaign in full swing, candidates are facing the press to answer all sorts of questions. Today (September 10), Liberal leader Justin Trudeau was met with a pop culture-minded set of q's from Vancouver's favourite tam-topped journo, Nardwuar.

As the Georgia Straight points out, Nardwuar was one of the members of the press that were given the chance to speak with the candidate today. Armed with a stack of LPs and singles, he grilled Trudeau on his awareness of vintage records including the Sinners' "Go Go Trudeau," written about his father and former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. "I prefer 'Go Go Harper,'" Trudeau replied in jest.

Nardwuar also brought up the possibility of doing the Hip Flip, a swerve-centric children's game he's asked several politicians to play with him over the years.

"Paul Martin did the Hip Flip game," Nardwuar says in the video below, which was shot by the Georgia Straight. "Jean Chretien did the Hip Flip game. Jack Layton did the Hip Flip game. Michael Ignatieff did the Hip Flip game. Stephen Harper did not do the Hip Flip game. I was carried away by his security as I tried to approach him. Would you, Justin Trudeau, in this election of 2015, do the Hip Flip game with me, Nardwuar the Human Serviette?"

Trudeau agreed, but only after he took "more serious questions from everyone else." Though it apparently took place too quickly to be properly documented, Trudeau did indeed do the Hip Flip after the press conference.

Will the friendly flip be enough to cinch a Liberal win? The election will be held October 19.
UPDATE (9/11 12:15 p.m.) Nardwuar has now posted his own video of the encounter with Trudeau, which features honest-to-god footage of their successful Hip Flip. You'll find the clip below.
