Napalm Death

"To Go Off and Things" (Cardiacs cover)

Napalm Death are saluting UK post-punk outfit Cardiacs, grinding their way through a cover of the act's "To Go Off and Things" to help raise funds for ailing Cardiacs vocalist Tim Smith.

Smith suffered a heart attack and a stroke in 2008, later suffering a second stroke which has left him in a debilitated condition for years. Proceeds from the sales of Napalm Death's run-through of the track, which meshes the carnival organ sounds of the original with crushing metal distorion while replacing quirky vocals with Barney Greenway's growl, will go towards Smith's ongoing rehabilitation.

"Tim always struck me as a person with a massive heart, who had a very pure and innocent view of the world in which we live in — something I totally related to, as the world can be a dark place — he radiated happiness," bassist Shane Embury explained in a statement. "We shared many fun and elaborate conversations after Cardiacs shows in the early '90s and I loved every minute of every conversation with him. I could go on and on for hours about how amazing his music is and the immense influence it has had on my life but suffice to say this cover of 'To Go Off And Things' that we have recorded is in tribute to the brilliance that is Tim Smith — it is the least we can do for a man who has given us so much."
