In a move that will no doubt surprise many, My Chemical Romance announced late Friday night (March 22) that they are no longer. The news came via the New Jersey band's website, with the anthem-oriented pop punks stating that, after over a decade, it's time to throw in the towel.
The statement reads:
Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.
Frontman Gerard Way added via his Twitter, "Beyond any sadness, what I feel the most is pride," sharing the following photo.
My Chemical Romance released four studio albums throughout their career, most recently rolling out a series of 7-inch singles called Conventional Weapons. Before that, they put out their last full-length, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, in 2010.
At this point, there is no word on the band members' future plans, but we wouldn't be surprised if we saw at least a few spin-off projects.
