A music production student in Ireland may soon be able to hang up a bachelor's degree on his or her wall of sound thanks in part to Kevin Shields, since the My Bloody Valentine leader just got a scholarship named after him.

Consequence of Sound reports that BIMM Dublin will be awarding a scholarship to pay for a lucky student's three-year bachelor degree in music production. Appropriately, this is called the Kevin Shields Music Production Scholarship, and it's fairly valuable: tuition costs €5,950 ($8,364.97 Canadian) for those in the European Union or €10,950 ($15,396.79) for international students.

This vocational program will train students interested in pursuing a career in production, sound engineering, live sound, computer music design, or film and TV sound. Shields said in a statement, "It's a good opportunity for a young producer to learn all about sound and techniques, it's a cool course."

To apply for the scholarship, you must first be accepted into the program. Learn more about it and how to apply here. There's no word as to whether the course includes any instruction on how to concoct blissful clouds of shoegaze fuzz.
