Drake is one of the biggest music stars around, so obviously there are plenty of folks vying for a piece of the pie. Now, some of the players behind the scenes are squabbling over their share, taking the case to the courts.
James "Jas" Prince, the talent scout who discovered Drake and was integral in getting him signed, claims that the rapper's managers haven't paid him royalties in a year. The New York Daily News reports that in a lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court he's targeting Cortez Bryant, Gerald Roberson, Derrick Lawrence and their companies, including Aspire Music Group LLC, who apparently haven't disclosed exactly how much they owe Prince.
Prince, who is the son of Rap-A-Lot Records boss J. Prince, claims he discovered Drake on MySpace in 2007. He then shared the music with Lil Wayne, ultimately got Drake a deal with Weezy's Young Money Entertainment and turned the TO rapper into a star. According to the lawsuit, Prince was to get a share of Drake's earnings, but he has never seen a cent of that money.
Don't blame Drake for all of this, however. Prince and his lawyer claim that Drizzy is also getting screwed over the by managers, and he even alleges that the rapper is close to filing a lawsuit of his own. Prince and Drake are apparently still on good terms.
